Christian’s Visit To Wicklow – The Garden Of Ireland
18th May 2018
I wouldn’t call myself an outdoorsy mountain person, but after a trip to the Wicklow Mountains, I’m already longing to return.
I went on a day tour to the Wicklow Mountains on the 18th of April. It was my first time to the Wicklow Mountains. I got the bus from Nassau Street because I had been running late, but luckily the shop staff let the driver know that there were two late arrivals.
The tour guide for the day was Richie, and he was great. Richie was so knowledgeable on Irish history and had little anecdotes about Dublin and Wicklow. He remained energetic and fun throughout the whole day tour. Richie and I also bonded on our love/hate relationship with Arsenal F.C., but won’t get into that madness right now!
The journey was very comfortable, and it was bettered by the fact the buses had Wi-Fi and charging ports.
County Wicklow is known as the garden of Ireland. It is located on the east coast just outside Dublin. It’s hard to believe it’s closeness to the capital because it’s almost like entering a new world. Wicklow is the largest upland area in Ireland. It offers stunning scenic coastline, soaring mountains and peaceful forests. Wicklow is rich in ancient religious and more recent military history. County Wicklow offers some of Ireland’s most spectacular countryside.
We drove around the thin and winding roads on a slow ascent. In typical Irish fashion, the clouds formed a thick layer of dullness over our heads. At this point, I thought that we wouldn’t be able to get any good pictures at the different photo stops – P.S. I Love You Bridge and Lough Tay. But after a quick group prayer, the skies brightened up and were able to get great pictures of the bridge and lake.
Glendalough is in the heart of County Wicklow, this beautiful green valley, with a shimmering glacial lake nestled between the oblique mountains and some noisy waterfalls.
The picturesque landscapes that you see while on the day tour, you can understand where people refer to it as “the Garden of Ireland”. If you want a break from Dublin or just experience something new, do take a trip out to the mountains!
"My husband and I decided to take a tour of the Wicklow Mountains Tour on one of our last days in Dublin and boy are we glad we did! Our tour guide Richie added to the excellence of this tour so if you receive him, you are in luck! The tour started on a nice comfortable charter bus that made the whole bus experience more enjoyable. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful day with no rain or clouds. I highly recommend this tour if you have just one day in Dublin." Evelyn E
"If you have one day free while being in Dublin, don't miss this trip. Jerry the guide knows everything!" GabyCaro
"The tour was a nice round through Wicklow National Park with spots, seen on TV as the bridge in "P.S. I love you" or the Guiness Lake, where the TV show "Vikings" was shot. The scenery was beautiful and Richie made it even more enjoyable with fun facts and stories that you usually don't hear. He really built a connection to his customers with asking for their countries and added facts and stories to the tour, based on the country. With local Music, that also told about the region, the rest of the tour was always an experience. We really enjoyed the tour!" Manuel M
